Live by Foghat
Album Review:
There were a number of great live Classic Rock albums produced in the 70 and while the list might be debatable, a handful of albums should always be included. Live by Foghat is one of those albums. While it is not the longest set running only 38 minutes, it is one of the best engineered albums and must be listened to from start with Fool For The City to the end with their best known hit Slow Ride. Currently Live by Foghat is one of the available $2.99 albums for a limited time.

100 (100 Original Tracks – Remastered) by June Christy
Album Review:
June Christy (a.k.a Shirley Luster and Sharon Leslie) began singing at the young age of 13. After changing her name for the last time, she joined the Stan Kenton’s Orchestra and provided the vocals to hits such as “Shoo Fly Pie and Apple Pan Dowdy,” “Tampico,” and “How High the Moon”. 100 (100 Original Tracks – Remastered) features songs from 10 different solo albums released between 1954 – 1962 including half of her Christmas album. Following her death, the British magazine “The New Statesman” noted that June Christy was “one of the finest and most neglected singers of her time.” If you enjoy the classic Cool Jazz with sultry vocals, take a look at this 5 hour collection at a bargain price.

Life Changing by Smokie Norful
Album Review:
In 2004, Pastor Smokie Norful received the Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album Grammy for I Need You Now (Available for $9.49). He followed up this success in 2006 with a mix of Gospel music & a touch of R&B styling in Life Changing. If you are looking for a contemporary Gospel album that is both “inspiring and insightful”, give a listen to this lesser-known gem and you’ll see why the album is called Life Changing.

Labour Of Love by UB40
Album Review:
There were a few new (and older) $2.99 albums that popped up this week including UB40′s fourth album Labour Of Love that features reggae covers of some of their favorite music and artists. Most notable is the #1 hit cover of Neil Diamond’s song Red Red Wine which has become some much more recognizable than the original that even NEil sometimes performs this version in his concerts. Other great songs on the release include Cherry Oh Baby, Many Rivers to Cross, and Please Don’t Make Me Cry.

Lion And The Cobra by Sinead O’Connor
I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got by Sinead O’Connor
Album Reviews:
At time she might be a little controversial and sometimes she even has hair on her head (at least until people start asking if she is enya) but the voice and music of the Irish singer/songwriter Sinéad O’Connor has a place all its own in history. Her debut album Lion And The Cobra and sophomore release I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got established her as a music icon and now you can add either of these classics to your collection for only $2.99 each. The later features her popular cover song Nothing Compares 2 U.

She Hangs Brightly by Mazzy Star
Album Review:
She Hangs Brightly is the debut album from the Santa Monica band
Mazzy Star that formed following the break up of Opal. She Hangs Brightly has been called “Coldly Beautiful” and Piero Scaruffi (author of A History of Rock Music 1951-2000) described the release as “a melting pot of acoustic folk, Delta blues, oneiric acid-rock and laconic lounge jazz.” Right now, you can pick up this classic at a great price.

20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection: Best Of Joe Walsh by Joe Walsh
Album Review:
Eagles member Joe Walsh has always had a distinct sound. The Millennium Collection: Best Of Joe Walsh release may not have all of his best, in fact it’s a crime not to have “Life’s Been Good” included, but for $2.99, you get a small snapshot into his music career including time with The James Gang and Barnstorm. Highlights include Walk Away, Funk #49, Turn To Stone, County Fair, and his best known hit Rocky Mountain Way.
