Kisses On The Bottom by Paul McCartney

Friday, March 30th, 2012

Album Review:

For an album that has a Valentine’s day feel to it, I guess better late than never will do for Kisses On The Bottom by Paul McCartney. For his sixteenth solo album, McCartney has put together an album inspired by some jazz musicians that he has worked with in the past including Diana Krall and John Clayton. The release features 2 original compositions but the remainder of the album are remakes of some old time songs from American past that he remembered his parents enjoying at new year. An interesting collection that is not the Paul from rock ‘n roll past but a more refined Adult Contemporary Paul.

A Different Kind Of Fix by Bombay Bicycle Club

Album Review:

It feels like there has been a trend to the daily deals as of late. First it helps if you are an Indie group, second, if your home country is the UK or Canada, and third, if you are a relativity new release, then your chance of being the deal of the day at the end of March are better than average. A Different Kind Of Fix by Bombay Bicycle Club is their third studio album and is full of great music, imaginative lyrics and an over all fabulous listening experience. You now have a great opportunity to listen to one of the up and coming groups from the UK at a terrific price and how can you fault an album that has a lead track titled “How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep”.

The End Of That by Plants and Animals

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

Album Review:

This is the second deal in a row from an artist haling from Canada. The End Of That by Plants and Animals is one of their best recording and showcases why they have described themselves as post-classic rock and the style compliments the new list of acoustic albums that are featured this week. The highlight from the album is the single ‘Lightshow’ and at times you can hear a little Dylan in their presentation.

Siberia by Lights

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

Album Review:

On her second studio album Siberia, Canadian musician Lights continues to shine (wow, that is a bad pun) and though slightly grittier than her debut The Listening (Available for $9.49), still delivers with a catchy pop energy and charm. She toured with fellow synthpop artist Owl City and was even featured in the Owl City “Deer in the Headlights” music video which if you haven’t seen, you should check it out. Fans of the genre should love Siberia and enjoy the fact that it is a full length album that runs almost 60 minutes. Pick up Siberia at this great price while you can.

Sonik Kicks by Paul Weller

Album Review:

Paul Weller has already had a long career with The Jam, The Style Council and as a solo artist… and he is still going strong. While much of his recognition and accolades, have come from the UK, his latest release Sonik Kicks shows that he is still in his creative prime with his ability to mix pop, rock with elements of folk and jazz set to a sonic sound scape for a listening experience you won’t soon forget.

Steadfast by Clay Aiken

Album Review:

A new Clay Aiken album is being released while his name is fresh on people’s mind following his stint on Celebrity Apprentice and you can download it a day before the CD is available. Steadfast features two new songs, Bring Back My Love and a rendition of Who’s Sorry Now for the American Idol 2nd season runner-up. Most of the other tracks will sound familiar as they were previously released on his 2010 album . Those that have Tried & True, may want to pass on Steadfast since it is mostly a re-hash but Decca has been able to produce it the way that RCA could not and may still be a great addition for an Aiken fan.

Great Gypsy Soul by Tommy Bolin And Friends

Saturday, March 24th, 2012

Album Review:

About 35 years years ago a talented guitarist named Tommy Bolin (Zephyr, The James Gang, and Deep Purple) died at the young age of 25. Even in that short time, Tommy was able to influence music at the time with his ability to play hard rock, jazz, reggae and Latin music and even blend them together in the same song. The tribute album Great Gypsy Soul by Tommy Bolin And Friends features artist friends from his past as well as those he inspired including: Peter Frampton, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, Big Sugar, Brad Whitford, Glenn Hughes, Joe Bonamassa, Myles Kennedy, Nels Cline, Oz Noy, Steve Lukather, and Steve Morse. The special Deluxe version of the album contains 39 minutes of material not available elsewhere plus, you can download it a day before it’s CD release on Monday.
