Not Your Kind of People by Garbage

Album Review:

Strange how the new album from Garbage seemed to fly under the radar when it was released about a month ago as I have already heard many fans comment that they were unaware of Not Your Kind Of People. A contributing factor may be that it was produced under their own independent label, Stunvolume Records. Even after an extended hiatus, Not Your Kind Of People demonstrates that Shirley Manson and company haven’t lost a step.

Mothership by Led Zeppelin

Album Review:

I have always been fond of the name origins of Led Zeppelin as recounted on Alex Reisner’s LED ZEPPELIN Site:

When Jimmy Page was assembling the group, Keith Moon (drummer from The Who) got word of his plans and predicted the group would go down “like a lead balloon” (this is a common English expression). Bassist and keyboardist John Entwistle thought it would be “more like a lead zeppelin.” Page took the phrase and manager Peter Grant changed the spelling to “led” in order to avoid mispronunciation.

Needless to say, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and company have yet to fulfill Moon’s prediction. Mothership is a nice collection of some of their best British blues-rock songs over their career including popular hits favorites such as Rock And Roll, Black Dog, Stairway To Heaven, Dazed And Confused, Immigrant Song, Ramble On, Over The Hills And Far Away, and one of my personal favorites Kashmir. If you do not have any Led Zeppelin in your collection, Mothership is a great way to get over 2 hours of their hits at a great price.

Oceania by Smashing Pumpkins

Monday, June 25th, 2012

Album Review:

Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan and new drummer Mike Byrne have been working on a concept album titled Teargarden by Kaleidyscope spanning multiple releases in the hopes of returning to their psychedelic roots. The most recent being Oceania and it has gotten both good and mediocre reviews depending when a fan base you ask. If you are fan of the band’s earlier work, then chances are you will enjoy Oceania as well.

Giant Steps by John Coltrane

Album Review:

It’s been a long time since we have seen a $1.99 Daily Deal that was not a classical compilation album. Giant Steps by John Coltrane was his first album on the Atlantic label back in 1960 and has been called “Trane’s first genuinely iconic record.” Nice to see a classic Jazz album of this importance as one of the daily deals.
