The Best Of The Gap Band by The Gap Band

Album Review:

In 1967, the Greenwood, Archer and Pine Street Band shortened their name to The Gap Band and went on to to a music career that would last more than 40 years. Charlie, Ronnie, and Robert Wilson play the funk which has always been more about getting people on the dance floor. The Best Of The Gap Band features almost 70 minutes of their best on 13 tracks including You Dropped A Bomb On Me, Outstanding, Burn Rubber On Me (Why You Wanna Hurt Me), Yearning For Your Love, Early In The Morning, I Don’t Believe You Want To Get Up And Dance (Oops Up Side Your Head), and more.

Album Review:

Want to keep that Valentines spring in your step? Maybe you need a little extra funk. Greatest Hits by Sly Stone

Album Review:

We’ve done a number of Freebie Fridays so why not throw in a Funky Friday? As one of the pioneers of Funk in the late 60s / early 70s, Sly Stone was a master instrumentalist and ability to fuse R&B, soul, psychedelia and rock with catchy melodies has made a lasting impact. Greatest Hits by Sly Stone features 10 of his best including Dance to the Music, Everyday People, and Family Affair. Break out a little funk this weekend with on of the best.

The Glorious Dead [Explicit] by The Heavy

Album Review:

The Heavy from Bath England have a great talent of blending funk, soul, R&B with a hint of grunge to create a sound reminiscent of the seventies with a lot of attitude. Their latest album The Glorious Dead might be their best yet and each song seems to have it’s own personality to create a perfect party soundtrack that sounds as much retro as it does modern. I could try to sum up more about the album, but you would be ahead to have a listen to the samples to hear for yourself.

What Time Is It? by The Time

Album Review:

The R&B Funk group from the early 80’s The Time was put together because of a clause in Prince’s contract allowing him to allowed him to recruit and produce other artists for Warner Bros. Their second studio album What Time Is It? is a full album even though it only has 6 tracks and climbed as high as #2 on the Billboard Top R&B list. The two favorites “777-9311” and “Gigolos Get Lonely Too” are the highlights of this classic and has heavy influence from Prince’s earlier years. Even though the liner notes claim differently, seven of the eight tracks were written by Prince (as Jamie Starr).

Carry Me Back by Old Crow Medicine Show

Tuesday, July 17th, 2012

Album Review:

Carry Me Back is the latest album from Old Crow Medicine Show and it is quite an entertaining album at that that one listener referred to as Alternative Bluegrass Americana. There is something nice about listening to the sound of a band featuring fiddles, mandolins, guitars and a bass that makes you think of a good old-fashioned hoe down. Take a listen to the samples and you’ll quickly see that Old Crow Medicine Show is back after a short hiatus and they didn’t miss a step.
