Ours Is Chrome by Superheaven

Album Review:

Ours Is Chrome is the second full length album from the band Superheaven (formally Daylight) released by Side One Dummy Records and is reminiscent of the Seattle grunge scene of the nineties. This consistent effort has hit a chord with fans of the Pennsylvanian band and recently dropped in price to just $3.99 making it the perfect time to see if Superheaven deserves a spot in your collection.

Ride the Black Wave by The Donkeys

Album Review:

The musical style from the San Diego based indie band The Donkeys has been compared to great groups like Pavement, Grateful Dead, and Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young and their latest album Ride the Black Wave proves that they are coming into their own sound. Released last summer, this album is perfect for both spring and the upcoming summer months with songs like Sunny Daze, Shines, Bahamas, and more. While we wish it was a little longer, $3.99 for this American Indie album is still a great deal.

It’s All Just Pretend by Ivan & Alyosha

Album Review:

Taken from characters from Dostoyevsky’s last novel, Ivan & Alyosha is the band’s name and not artists. I&A hails from Seattle, Washington and their latest album It’s All Just Pretend is a wonderful mix of folk-pop, indie, and rock highlighted by songs Don’t Lose Your Love, Something Is Wrong, Bury Me Deep, Tears In Your Eyes, Let Me Go East, and more. Have one listen and you’ll be hooked. Just one of the many great lesser-known albums on the $5.00 list this month.

Our Love by Caribou

Album Review:

Our Love is the most recent release from Canadian musician Daniel Victor “Dan” Snaith (a.k.a. Caribou, Manitoba and Daphni) and made such an impact to be named the 2014 IMPALA Album of the Year. With great track like Can’t Do Without You, Silver, Your Love Will Set You Free, Back Home, and more, makes Our Love one of the best of the $3.99 albums available right now.

Album Review:

Shriek by Wye Oak is the fourth studio album and follow up to the successful Civilian (Available for $8.91) also produced by Merge Records. They have altered their sound and presentation on this release giving it a more 80s pop feel but still put together a nice album with tracks that include The Tower, Glory, Logic of Color, Despicable Animal, Sick Talk, and more. It’s nice to see a decent recent indie release on the $3.99 album list currently available.

Dance The Devil by The Frames

Album Review:

The Frames were first formed in Dublin Ireland in the early Nineties by Glen Hansard and on the doorstep of the new millennium released Dance the Devil featuring the hit single Seven Day Mile. Coming into their own, this release help set the stage for the rest of their careers and are still gong today. Other standout tracks include Pavement Tune, Perfect Opening Line, Neath the Beeches (a song about the late Jeff Buckley), and more. Have a listen and you’ll see why they have developed a decent following over the years and had a great influence on the Dublin rock scene.
