Waiting For Columbus [Live] by Little Feat

Album Review:

In 1975 when asked about is favorite American Guitarists, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin stated that Little Feat is my favorite American group. That is some high praise from one of the best. In 1977, concerts were recorded and compiled into Waiting For Columbus with some featuring backing from the Tower of Power horn section to help generate their one of their best selling albums. Included are great tracks like Fat Man In The Bathtub, Dixie Chicken, Willin’, Spanish Moon, Old Folks’ Boogie, Time Loves A Hero, and more. They also have the expanded 27 track Waiting For Columbus [Live Deluxe] (Available for $14.49).

Mothership by Led Zeppelin

Album Review:

I have always been fond of the name origins of Led Zeppelin as recounted on Alex Reisner’s LED ZEPPELIN Site:

When Jimmy Page was assembling the group, Keith Moon (drummer from The Who) got word of his plans and predicted the group would go down “like a lead balloon” (this is a common English expression). Bassist and keyboardist John Entwistle thought it would be “more like a lead zeppelin.” Page took the phrase and manager Peter Grant changed the spelling to “led” in order to avoid mispronunciation.

Needless to say, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and company have yet to fulfill Moon’s prediction. Mothership is a nice collection of some of their best British blues-rock songs over their career including popular hits favorites such as Rock And Roll, Black Dog, Stairway To Heaven, Dazed And Confused, Immigrant Song, Ramble On, Over The Hills And Far Away, and one of my personal favorites Kashmir. If you do not have any Led Zeppelin in your collection, Mothership is a great way to get over 2 hours of their hits at a great price.
